Funding and volunteer service day to expand 10-acre buffer for Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve

HUNTINGTON BEACH (April 25, 2019) – The Bolsa Chica Conservancy has received a $6,000 donation from California Resources Corporation (CRC), the state’s leading independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company, dedicated to habitat restoration at the Harriett Wieder Park adjacent to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, California.
“We’re pleased to participate in local restoration efforts of a critical wetlands habitat in honor of Earth Day and throughout the year,” said Bob Grundstrom, CRC’s Leader for Los Angeles Basin Operations. “CRC is proud to assist in renewal efforts to preserve and protect vital wetlands, in addition to bringing increased awareness of valuable and vibrant natural resources and native species and inspire the support of the community, our staff and their friends and family.”
CRC employees will help remove invasive plant species, including wild radish and different mustard species, that currently keep native plants from establishing roots and flourishing. With the help of CRC’s funding, the goal is to restore 10 acres of upland habitat to provide a connection and buffer for an array of wildlife and local plants to thrive between the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve and the Huntington Beach mesa.
The nationwide 2019 theme for Earth Day is the protection of threatened and endangered species, which is at the center of the Conservancy’s conservation and restoration work in the wetlands and adjacent habitats. The public is invited to participate in the Conservancy’s restoration events throughout Earth month and the rest of the year. For details, visit https://bolsachica.org/get-involved-2/volunteer/
