California Kingsnake

California Kingsnake

Lampropeltis getula californiae

Fun Facts:

  • We have two Kingsnakes in our exhibits: one has the dominant colored variation (banded), and the other has the striped recessive color variation (pale yellow with a black stripe that goes all the way down its body).
  • They are active in the daytime during cooler weather and are active at dawn and dusk during warmer temperatures.
  • Kingsnakes eat other snakes and are immune to rattlesnake venom!
  • When threatened, they vibrate their tail creating a sound similar to that of the rattlesnake!

($25 BUYS: mice, shelter, tank cleaning, heat lamps)
