THE BOLSA CHICA CONSERVANCY RECEIVES $50,000 FROM THE EGBAR FOUNDATION, SIMPLE GREEN’s CHARITABLE GIVING ARM FOR TRAVELING WINDOWS TO OUR WETLANDS PROGRAM AND SCIENCE EDUCATION
Windows to Our Wetlands (WOW) to Bring Wetlands Science to More Schools and Communities
HUNTINGTON BEACH (April 15, 2019) – The Bolsa Chica Conservancy has been awarded $50,000 from Simple Green to update and expand its science-based wetlands education programs to reach additional schools and high-need communities throughout the southland. The EGBAR Foundation provided the initial seed funding for the traveling science program in 2016, along with the donation of one of its vans. “Supporting students through science education and hands-on learning programs with the Bolsa Chica Conservancy expands community awareness, encourages stewardship, and grows future scientists,” said Jeff Hyder, Simple Green Chief Operating Officer and EGBAR Foundation board member. “The EGBAR Foundation is proud to support youth education and outreach to the community to bring understanding of our critical natural resources and threatened and endangered species.”
Simple Green executives and staff additionally contributed the hands-on work of 20 volunteers to improve the Conservancy’s visitor center exterior and install signage for Earth Day celebrations and beyond. The visitor center and parking lot are located at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Ave in Huntington Beach. “Simple Green is an all-around good neighbor and ambassador for the Conservancy, sharing volunteers, lending resources for community events, and providing essential funding for youth education programs,” said Grace Adams, the Bolsa Chica Conservancy’s Executive Director. “We’re entirely thankful for their commitment to wetlands education for future generations,” she added.
The nationwide 2019 theme for Earth Day is the protection of threatened and endangered species, which is at the center of the Conservancy’s conservation and restoration work in the wetlands and adjacent habitats. The public is invited to participate in the Conservancy’s clean up and restoration events throughout Earth month and the rest of the year.
