Bolsa Chica Interpretive Center

Exhibits
The Bolsa Chica Conservancy’s Interpretive Center hosts several exhibits within its over 1,400 square foot facility. Upon visiting, you will receive a greeting by a team member at our front desk, who can inform you about our current events, programs, local wildlife, and conservation issues in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.

The center features several exhibits including salt water aquariums containing several marine life species native to Bolsa Chica and the southern California coast. These specimens may change throughout the year, but you can usually find various species of Sea Stars, a California Spiny Lobster, Kelp Bass, Opal Eye, and we currently have a few young Swell Sharks! In addition, we have a herpetology exhibit featuring live reptiles such as a San Diego Gopher Snake, Coastal Rosy Boa, California Kingsnakes, and Alligator Lizards. A microscope display allows visitors to see the microscopic creatures that inhabit the wetlands as well.

You will also find an interactive touch-screen which presents a wide array of information about Bolsa Chica, including wetland ecology, native species, endangered and protected species, human history, and habitat restoration. A timeline exploring the history of human interactions with the wetlands will take visitors through the story of the environment. Throughout the entire center you will find many different species of taxidermy including opossums, snakes and birds such as the Great Blue Heron, California Brown Pelican, Cooper’s Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Anna’s Hummingbird. Taxidermy and model replicas of the various aspects and environment of the wetlands provide information and context for what you will encounter in the wild.

Classroom
School visitors will be able to enjoy our classroom setting to participate in educational activities and programs such as our Summer Camp, Yleap, Calnat, field trips, and more.
