Critter Corner!
Learn more about this month’s featured critter
at the Bolsa Chica Interpretive Center
The Western Spotted Orb Weaver (Neoscona oaxacensis)
- You may start to notice HUGE webs in your garden or around your house this month. These are often constructed by the Western Spotted Orb weaver.
- These spiders can destroy and rebuild their webs in different locations, sometimes every night, to maximize the number of prey they are able to catch!
- Orb weavers mainly eat flying insects, especially beetles and moths.
- The males are often much smaller than the females and often become a female’s first meal after mating!
